Kiddus I - Complete Collection

Recordings by the legendary roots singer Kiddus I, who appeared in the "Rockers" film, will be released for the first time.
"Rockers: Graduation in Zion" is the first release in a series of three albums that will bring to the public the majority of his existing recordings.

Kiddus-I Profile

Kiddus I is the mysterious figure singing at the start of the film Rockers.

A graduate of Ras Michael's Sons Of Negus, a key member of The Wailers milieu, and a Black Ark artist, his recordings - centred on the Roots Reggae period - are marked by the openness of their musical horizons, and a striking originality and integrity. (Also during this era he was a key voice raised in the Jamaican music industry against political oppression.)

Yet Kiddus I's disdain for careerism has held him back from the spotlight - as so many people in Jamaican music will tell you. Now, this revelatory, comprehensive retrospective will surely confirm his place amongst the all-time greats of reggae music.

Kiddus I - Jah Power, Jah Glory

Kiddus I - Jah Power, Jah Glory 12inch Vinyl : On Sale!

Recorded at Tuff Gong in 1979. Previously unreleased material from the original master tape. The title track from Kiddus I's unreleased debut album 'Jah Power, Jah Glory'. The lament song features fine acoustic guitar playing by Al Anderson, the guitarist of the Wailers Band. The B-side contains a pure version to the A-side. Another lost piece found from the time when Root Rock Reggae was in its heyday.

Kiddus I - Graduation In Zion (Cheer Up)

Kiddus I - Graduation In Zion (Cheer Up) 12inch Vinyl : On Sale!

Unreleased long version of the renowned song 'Graduation in Zion' from the movie 'Rockers'. While Jack Ruby was working with Burning Spear during 1975, Kiddus I was also producing some songs with Jack. Theodore Bafaloukos, the director of the movie 'Rockers' encountered their studio session and asked him if he can use the scene and song in the movie. This is why the song was never released, officially. A few years later, Kiddus I recorded this proper version and it allows listeners to see a pure majestic 'vision' of Kiddus I. The B-side contains a full-length version to the A-side.

Kiddus I - Fire Burn

Kiddus I - Fire Burn 12inch Vinyl : On Sale!

12"single from the previously released album 'Rockers: Graduation In Zion 1978-1979 (DSR-LP-001)'. Kiddus I originally recorded 'Fire Burn' in 1973 but the master tape went missing. The song was re-recorded at Tuff Gong in 1978 for his debut album 'Jah Power, Jah Glory' but it remained unreleased. Surprisingly, the track has the same bassline to Bunny Wailer's 'Amagideon' and it is said Bunny adopted it from the 'Fire Burn', which were originally recorded in 1973. The most dreadful song amongst his unreleased material and 9 minutes of jazzy performance is just a miracle. The B-side contains a version to the A-side.

Kiddus I - Give I Strength

Kiddus I - Give I Strength 12inch Vinyl : On Sale!

This 12 minute version of 'Give I Strength' is different from the one previously appeared on the album 'Rockers: Graduation In Zion 1978-1979 (DSR-LP-001)'. Kiddus I recorded the song for his debut album 'Jah Power, Jah Glory' but it remained unreleased. The most of recordings he did at this time was very long and Kiddus I recalls this was possible because he used to 'treat' those musicians in a hospitable manner. This allowed musicians to be very improvisational in their playing on songs written by Kiddus I. The B-side version has an instrumental to the A-side.
